Our School
At the Salida Early Childhood Center, we believe that the early years are the foundation for future school success. Our programs provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences and activities that nurture child growth and development. Our curriculum prepares children for school and a lifelong love of learning. Our staff assists and supports families in self-sufficiency by providing information about local resources in the area.
Our programs include:
Home based visitation programs for pregnant moms and babies
Early Head Start center-based program for children ages 1 and walking-3 years
Preschool program for children ages 3-5, taught by CDE licensed teachers
We are funded by Head Start, Colorado Preschool Program, Special Education, ECARE, Early Head Start, and tuition for District employees. We waitlist based on child and family need.
Child Find
The purpose of the State of Colorado's Child Find program is to identify children who are having difficulty in their development and to provide services to them, when it is appropriate. SECC's Child Find is available for children ages 3 through 5 years old and is part of the public school system in Colorado to identify children suspected of having a delay in development as early as possible. This brochure details SECC Child Find services and offers a list of concerns that might be present with children who might not be meeting developmental milestones. If someone is concerned about a child’s growth or learning, a referral form can be submitted to the SECC Child Find representative.
Parents/Guardians who contact Child Find may have concerns about their child’s development in the areas of:
vision
hearing
speech/how they talk
moving skills
thinking skills
playing with other children
To get more information and or to schedule a developmental screening email Lisa Hostvet, SECC's Child Find coordinator at lhostvet@salidaschools.org.
