Sports at Salida Middle School

Salida Middle School students, in good academic standing, are eligible to participate in a variety of athletic activities including:

Fall: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Cheer
Winter: Wrestling, Boys & Girls Basketball, Cheer
Spring: Track and Field, Baseball

Sports available by grade level:
5th Grade - Cheerleading
6th Grade - Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, & Possibly Volleyball
7th Grade - Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Wrestling, Track & Field
8th Grade - Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Wrestling, Track & Field  

Student Athlete Registration

Salida Schools athletes complete a physical and then register through Arbiter before they are allowed to participate in any sports practice or game. Documents are filled out electronically and physicals are uploaded directly to Arbiter - no need for paperwork to be handed in at the school.

Eligibility Policy

From the SMS Student Handbook

• Participating in athletics and other extracurricular/after school activities, clubs, and events are highly encouraged. Research shows that students who are active outside of the academic classroom tend to do better academically. So, get involved! 

  However, you must stay eligible to participate.

• Eligibility is calculated every Tuesday and runs from Wednesday through the following Tuesday.

  A student with an F in any class, or who has two or more D grades is ineligible for one full week. Students are allowed to stay eligible through weekly in-class and at-home progress monitoring. Ineligible, student-athletes may continue to practice with the team, however, games or meets are not allowed.

Tickets and Passes

Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for students and are available for purchase with cash at the gate.

Season Passes are available in the SHS & SMS front offices: Adults $40, Students $20. These are good for ALL SHS & SMS regular season home games for the entire school year! 

Seniors, age 60+, may show their ID at their first event to receive a Lifetime Senior Pass. SSD Employees can use their staff ID to get in for free and our retired employees are eligible for a lifetime pass good for all Salida home games. 

Professional Sports Pictures

Team sports photos are done by Vibrant Valley Photography. Parents will receive an email with order information each season. 

Supplemental Student Insurance is offered through K & K Student Insurance for students who do not have health insurance coverage. Every student is required to have insurance coverage as the School District does not cover individual student athletes. Forms can be picked up in the SHS front office.

Student Athlete Program Partnership with HRRMC
Salida School District has partnered with Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center to provide support to student athletes and coordinates efforts between HRRMC Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists and Orthopedists to get student athletes back to their sport as safely and effectively as possible. The Salida School District is committed to a safe and respectful game day experience for every guest, home team and visitors. Violators can be ejected from the game at the discretion of the athletic director or admin on duty. Consequences for violation may include banning from future games when deemed appropriate.
