The Salida School District recognizes the vital role that the yellow school bus plays in our district and in the lives of our students and community. Join us to celebrate National Love the Bus Month with in February. Thank you to Evalyn Parks and her dedicated team of transportation professionals.
The yellow school bus is among the most recognized icons of American schools and society, and school buses make up the largest mass transit system in the United States. Research demonstrates that the yellow school bus is the safest mode of transportation for some 26 million American school children each day.
Yellow school buses are built to exacting federal and state safety specifications and school bus drivers are provided rigorous training, preparation and testing to ensure the safety of our children. Salida Schools is dedicated to meeting and exceeding these standards to keep our students safe on the road.
The Salida Schools transportation team gives our students access to education and learning for children, including children who present with special needs. They also enhance the educational experience by providing access to extracurricular activities, such as field trips and sporting events.
Use of school buses helps contribute to improving our environment by reducing the number of vehicles that must be on the road to get our children to school each day.
The women and men who make up our school transportation systems are dedicated to the safety of all children and to ensuring efficiency and accountability in the delivery of school transportation services.
We call upon our students, our families, our faculty and staff, and our community to recognize the work of our school transportation team and all they contribute to the well-being of our students.
Support School Bus Safety
We also ask that you remember you are an important part of keeping our students safe. When you see a school bus slowing down or stopping, it’s not just the bus that you need to have your eyes on – but the surrounding area too. Children wait at least several feet away from a bus and often cross the street when they’re boarding or getting off the bus. This is why you must stop for school buses, and don’t attempt to pass.
Illegal school bus passing poses a significant threat to children and others on the road. In every state, it is illegal for you to pass a school bus while the stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing. Always stop when the stop-arm is out.
