Longfellow Families,
I know many of you will be heading out tonight with your families to enjoy some trick or treating Salida style. With costumes in place, many families head down to F street to enjoy the decorations, the thriller dance, and a chance to see their Longfellow friends. Our kids bring so much joy to everyone in our community. Many of us have elderly neighbors or family members who can’t partake in the F Street fun. Consider a quick stop by their houses before joining the revelers on F Street. You can be ready with some candy and if they don’t have any candy to give the kids, you can give some to them instead. These little acts of kindness will leave a lasting impression on our kids and bring a little light into the lives of some of our fellow community members.
Also, on the subject of candy, please limit the amount of candy sent to school to one piece per day. Classroom teachers may also have specific guidelines. Every year, at least one of our students will bring their entire “haul” to school. When this happens, I have to laugh (and then give the subtle reminder to put it away and to leave it at home in the future.)
If you’re looking for a way to work off some of the candy calories or want to get out and enjoy the fall weather, consider bringing your family down to join the Longfellow Parent Association’s Mountain Lion Fun Run! There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers in each category as well as a random drawing for prizes. You can find the link to sign up at the bottom of the page.
Next Tuesday the 5th and Wednesday the 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., we have our regularly scheduled fall conferences. Many families have already been in the building connecting with classroom teachers on how we can all work together to make sure our kids are successful. Our goal is to connect with every family. Be sure to have one scheduled with your child’s teacher to see how they are doing. Also, while you're in the building please remember to check lost and found. It’s brimming full and we want to get the items to the rightful owners. Right before Thanksgiving break, we’ll be donating the items left to local nonprofits (so they can help everyone have a warm winter too!)
Thank you for all your support,
Cory Scheffel, Longfellow Principal
