Different cats are everywhere with the first grade performance of "Meow!"

Excitement builds as we have lots of fun stuff happening here at Longfellow Elementary this week. Yesterday, we had an author’s visit by Laura Krantz. Laura is the author of The Search for Sasquatch, Is Anybody Out There? and Do You Believe in Magic? These books explore the gray area between myth and reality as she weaves fun stories and science while examining the existence of some of society's deepest mysteries. I’d like to thank the local nonprofit Elevating Readers Together, for bringing this exciting event to our students. They truly work to make reading come alive for the students of Salida by giving them access to high quality literature and allowing them to peek behind the scenes and discover what it truly is like to be an author.

The fun continues this evening as 1st grade families are welcomed to our first music program of the year, “Meow.” The program will take place in the Longfellow gym at 6:00 p.m.  Huge thanks to Ms. Giangiulio for putting together this incredible program and all the 1st graders for their hard work. I know the program will be purrfect for all involved.

We start cold, then get warm, and then go back to cold. Our lost and found went down slightly during conferences, but the temperature fluctuations have helped it to grow again. If your child has lost anything, swing by the office and we’ll let you peruse the lost and found for those missing items. You may be surprised at what you find! In the weeks ahead, we’ll be taking what remains and donating it to those in need.

As I talk about lost and found, we still can’t get away from the chill. With the cold in the mornings, please help us by making sure your child leaves the house adequately dressed for the weather. Also, keep in mind our entry times so that your child doesn’t have to wait outside for too long on the cold days. Doors open at 7:50 for those eating breakfast. Those not eating breakfast enter the building at 8:10.

As a reminder:  With the sun sitting low in the sky in the mornings, we continue to have close calls during drop off. Please have your child exit the vehicle on the sidewalk side to keep them away from traffic. Remember to drive slowly on the streets around our campus. Finally, utilize the circle drive for drop-off only. Please do not park along the curb as other families utilize this resource to drop their own children off.
