Families of Longfellow Elementary-
I hope everyone has had the chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having! It's been awesome to see the students enjoying the sunshine during recess. I also enjoy seeing families taking some time to connect and enjoy our playground after school. Time with our kids and our neighbors is what makes springtime in Salida truly special. As we all know, the weather can still turn on a dime. With the change in seasons and outdoor play, we want to remind you to check our Lost and Found. It's overflowing with jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, and other items. Labeling your child’s things makes it much easier for us to get them back to them. Please stop by the school office and we can show you to the lost and found (and hopefully reunite you with that lost item).
Throughout the year, Longfellow Parent Association has been working to add some excitement to our playground. In the months ahead, you’ll see a few of our basketball hoops come down to a more appropriate height for elementary students. You’ll also see a gaga pit being added to our playground offerings. It’s an active multi-player game that has been a hit at both the Crest Academy and at Salida Middle School. This past week we added a “mega-size” Connect 4 game using LPA funds. I truly appreciate LPA’s passion and support. It is key to making our school great. If you’d like to become a part of the LPA you can email them at lpa@salidaschools.org. Looking ahead, there are a few leadership positions available for the 25-26 school year and it is a great way to have an impact on the lives of all the kids in the Longfellow community.
Speaking of our community, I’d like to take a moment and highlight our very own Miss Betty. Everyone knows Miss Betty. She is the heart of our school and makes sure all kids are safe and accounted for. Many of our parents were introduced to Miss Betty as a student and now get to work with her with their own kids. If there is one person who epitomizes our school and our community, it is Miss Betty. This Friday, Miss Betty will be honored as one of our Community Cornerstone finalists for all the incredible work she’s done in and around our community. I’m truly thankful to have her as part of the Longfellow family.
Finally, we also wanted to remind you that spring break is just around the corner (March 15th through March 23rd). We hope you and your family have a restful and enjoyable break. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school refreshed and ready to learn.
Thank you,
Cory Scheffel
