Longfellow Families,
The fall weather is among us. Snow and rain are part of the fun this time of year. We try to have outside recess as much as possible. That said, the weather doesn’t always cooperate. Help your child be prepared by making sure they are bundled and ready for the school day. Know that weather in the mountains can change on a dime. Have them layered up and prepared to meet the day. Also help them prepare for when they may take their coat off. Have items labeled with their last name and we’ll work to make sure it gets in the right hands when it does become lost.
Many of our students walk or get dropped off at school. During this time of year, the sun in the morning is sitting low in the sky. This makes seeing those little ones extra tough. Be extra careful in the morning especially along 7th street and in the circle drive. When dropping off your child in the circle drive, pull all the way to the end of the line. Have your child exit on the sidewalk side. If you’d like to walk your child to the doors, please park. That way, we can keep the circle drive flowing for families who are hustling to get into their day.
Next week is School Bus Safety Week throughout the nation. School buses remain one of the safest modes of transportation. For many of our families, school buses are a crucial part of their day. As I’m sure many of you have observed, loading and unloading our buses is a big task. Our staff works in conjunction with our bus drivers to make sure each child gets on the correct bus and arrives safely at their destination. A significant portion of the bus accidents happen when students are boarding or exiting the bus. If your child rides the bus, teach them to stand back from the road and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before attempting to board. If you are driving about town, be sure to stop any time you see them stopped with their stop sign displayed. This includes bikes as well as vehicles. With all of us working together, we can make sure our precious cargo arrives safely at their destination.
Last, thank you to all who have participated in the LPA Buy Local Fundraiser! If you’d still like to participate, you can do so at the Longfellow Buy Local website.
All forms and money are due Thursday, Oct. 23rd.
