Families of Longfellow Elementary-
We had a close call this week. On their way to school, a student ran in front of a car. Fortunately, they weren’t hit. The sun low in the sky didn’t help. The driver was rattled and we had a conversation with the student about safely crossing the street. Please talk to your kids about looking both ways before crossing the street. Tell them to look at the driver to be sure that the driver sees them before crossing. If you are dropping off your student, be sure to go slow in and around Longfellow and be aware of the times when the sun is in your eyes. With the mild weather, we haven’t had to scrape our windows much. That said, the snow and cold will return. When it does, take that extra minute to make sure your windows are clear. Also remember our “walk your wheels” policy for students and adults on bikes and scooters. This applies to our campus sidewalks and our circle drive and helps avoid crashes. We want to make sure all our kids arrive at school safely and ready to learn.
Today, our 1st grade is celebrating “Fairy Tale Day”. This morning students showed up dressed as princes and princesses; dragons and knights; “Jack and the Beanstalks”; and we even had a few “big bad wolves”. The 1st grade team puts this together to encourage reading and to share with students the incredible world it opens up to them. As part of this, they compare fairy tales from all parts of the globe. Thanks to the 1st grade team for putting this together and thanks to students and families for supporting our kids as they grow into the world of literacy.
Next Thursday, December 18th is our last day before the holiday break. Classes resume on January 5th. Our partners over at Boys and Girls Club have their last day on Friday, December 19th and also resume their operations on January 5th. We wish everyone a chance to relax and connect. Familias de la Escuela Primaria Longfellow -
Tuvimos un susto esta semana. De camino a la escuela, un estudiante se atropelló con un auto. Afortunadamente, no fue atropellado. El sol bajo no ayudó. El conductor estaba nervioso y conversamos con el estudiante sobre cómo cruzar la calle con seguridad. Por favor, díganles a sus hijos que miren a ambos lados antes de cruzar la calle. Díganles que miren al conductor para asegurarse de que los vea antes de cruzar. Si van a dejar a su hijo, asegúrense de conducir despacio en Longfellow y sus alrededores y estén atentos a los momentos en que el sol les da en los ojos. Con el clima templado, no hemos tenido que raspar mucho las ventanas. Dicho esto, la nieve y el frío volverán. Cuando esto ocurra, tómense un minuto extra para asegurarse de que sus ventanas estén limpias. También recuerden nuestra política de "caminar con las ruedas" para estudiantes y adultos en bicicletas y patinetes. Esto aplica a las aceras de nuestro campus y a nuestra rotonda y ayuda a evitar accidentes. Queremos asegurarnos de que todos nuestros niños lleguen a la escuela sanos y salvos y listos para aprender.
Hoy, nuestro primer grado celebra el "Día de los Cuentos de Hadas". Esta mañana, los alumnos se disfrazaron de príncipes y princesas, dragones y caballeros, de "Juan y las habichuelas mágicas" e incluso de "lobos feroces". El equipo de primer grado organiza este evento para fomentar la lectura y compartir con los alumnos el increíble mundo que se les abre. Como parte de esto, comparan cuentos de hadas de todo el mundo. Gracias al equipo de primer grado por organizarlo y gracias a los alumnos y familias por apoyar a nuestros niños en su crecimiento en el mundo de la lectoescritura.
El próximo jueves 18 de diciembre es nuestro último día antes de las vacaciones. Las clases se reanudan el 5 de enero. Nuestros socios del Boys and Girls Club tienen su último día el viernes 19 de diciembre y también reanudan sus actividades el 5 de enero. Les deseamos a todos la oportunidad de relajarse y conectar.
