Families of Longfellow Elementary-
Next week, much of our focus will circle around the love of reading. Monday through Wednesday, we’ll have the book fair set up for students who want to purchase books. They’ll have opportunities to view the book fair during their specials throughout the week. If you’d like to go through the book fair with your child, we’ll have it open before school from 7:30-8:10 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. During those times, students who have money, but whose parents can’t make it, will be allowed to go up and purchase a book. The book fair is open after school on Monday and Tuesday, but all students must be accompanied by an adult during these times.
On Wednesday, from 5:00 to 6:30, we’ll have our annual literacy night. This year’s theme is Fireside Fables. We’ll have lots of literacy activities for families to participate in and the book fair will also be open at this time. A pasta dinner will be served during literacy night and students will have the opportunity to get a free book by completing the literacy night activities. Please come and celebrate reading with your child. Thanks go out to Elevating Readers, the Longfellow Parent Association, and school staff for all the planning to make this event a success.
As many of you may already know, I’ll be stepping down as principal at the end of this year. I look forward to spending the last few years of my career getting away from the computer and working in a role that allows me to do what I truly love, working directly with students. With such an amazing staff, I know that Longfellow will continue the excellence that has defined us throughout the years.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Primaria Longfellow:
La próxima semana, gran parte de nuestra atención se centrará en el amor por la lectura. De lunes a miércoles, tendremos la feria del libro para los estudiantes que deseen comprar libros. Tendrán la oportunidad de visitar la feria durante sus clases especiales a lo largo de la semana. Si desean visitar la feria del libro con sus hijos, estará abierta antes de la escuela de 7:30 a 8:10 los lunes, martes y miércoles. Durante ese horario, los estudiantes que tengan dinero, pero cuyos padres no puedan asistir, podrán comprar un libro. La feria del libro también estará abierta después de la escuela los lunes y martes, pero todos los estudiantes deberán estar acompañados por un adulto durante ese horario.
El miércoles, de 17:00 a 18:30, celebraremos nuestra noche anual de lectura. El tema de este año es "Fábulas junto a la chimenea". Tendremos muchas actividades de lectura para que las familias participen y la feria del libro también estará abierta. Se servirá una cena de pasta durante la noche de lectura y los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de obtener un libro gratis al completar las actividades. Los invitamos a celebrar la lectura con sus hijos. Agradecemos a Elevating Readers, a la Asociación de Padres de Longfellow y al personal de la escuela por toda la planificación para que este evento sea un éxito.
Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, dejaré mi cargo como director al final de este año escolar. Espero pasar los últimos años de mi carrera alejado de la computadora y trabajando en un puesto que me permita hacer lo que realmente me apasiona: trabajar directamente con los estudiantes. Con un personal tan maravilloso, sé que Longfellow continuará con la excelencia que nos ha caracterizado a lo largo de los años.
