Families of Longfellow Elementary-
I want to start with a thank you to the Longfellow Parents Association, the non-profit Elevating Readers Together, volunteers, and Longfellow staff for making this week a resounding success. Throughout the week, we’ve had our book fair set up in the Longfellow library. The LPA and volunteers manned the book fair, giving our students the opportunity to find the book that was “just right”. One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is the ability to read. Next time you go to the store and the kids are saying, “I want this” or “I want that”, steer them towards the book section and say you can pick out a book. It is one of the most precious gifts you can give and it builds skills that last a lifetime.
Continuing our celebration of all things literacy, we held our annual literacy night last evening. This year’s theme was Fireside Fables. Throughout the evening, students and their families journeyed from classroom to classroom and participated in activities focused on reading, writing, and literacy. We rounded out the evening with a pasta dinner provided by our own kitchen staff. Overall, it was a great event and I appreciate all the work everyone put in to make it all happen.
I’d also like to thank the non-profit Elevating Readers Together. In addition to providing books for each students’ birthday throughout the year, they were also the ones who provided free books for the kids who completed the activities at literacy night. They’re passionate about reading, they’re passionate about kids. They are a huge asset to our community.
To wrap up this week, I want to say thank you to you all for supporting Longfellow Elementary and your kids as they grow into young scholars. Within them lies the promise of the future.

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Primaria Longfellow:
Quiero comenzar agradeciendo a la Asociación de Padres de Longfellow, a la organización sin fines de lucro Elevating Readers Together, a los voluntarios y al personal de Longfellow por hacer de esta semana un éxito rotundo. Durante toda la semana, tuvimos nuestra feria del libro en la biblioteca de Longfellow. La Asociación de Padres y los voluntarios se encargaron de la feria, brindando a nuestros estudiantes la oportunidad de encontrar el libro perfecto. Uno de los mejores regalos que se le puede dar a un niño es la capacidad de leer. La próxima vez que vayan a la tienda y sus hijos digan: "Quiero esto" o "Quiero aquello", llévenlos a la sección de libros y díganles que pueden elegir uno. Es uno de los regalos más valiosos que pueden dar y desarrolla habilidades que duran toda la vida.
Continuando con nuestra celebración de la lectura, celebramos nuestra noche anual de alfabetización anoche. El tema de este año fue "Fábulas junto a la chimenea". Durante la noche, los estudiantes y sus familias recorrieron las aulas y participaron en actividades centradas en la lectura, la escritura y la alfabetización. Terminamos la noche con una cena de pasta preparada por nuestro propio personal de cocina. En general, fue un gran evento y agradezco todo el trabajo que todos hicieron para que fuera posible.
También me gustaría agradecer a la organización sin fines de lucro Elevating Readers Together. Además de proporcionar libros para el cumpleaños de cada estudiante durante todo el año, también fueron quienes proporcionaron libros gratuitos para los niños que completaron las actividades en la noche de alfabetización. Les apasiona la lectura y les apasionan los niños. Son un gran recurso para nuestra comunidad.
Para concluir esta semana, quiero agradecerles a todos por apoyar a la Escuela Primaria Longfellow y a sus hijos en su camino para convertirse en jóvenes estudiantes. En ellos reside la promesa del futuro.
