Families of Longfellow Elementary-
This afternoon we’re holding our second ROAR school wide celebration to honor the positive behaviors shown by the students of Longfellow. Each week, tickets are earned when students demonstrate ROAR principles in action. Those tickets then go into a class pot and the winning class gets to host the traveling trophy for the week. On top of that, once the whole school has earned 10,000 tickets, the whole school gets to celebrate!
Kindergarten was the winningest grade level, so they voted on what the school-wide celebration would be. They chose bingo! It was very popular a few years back, and now it is making its return to Longfellow. The event is live-streamed to classrooms over YouTube. Sitting at “ROAR headquarters” (the conference room? my office?), I pull the numbers from the bingo wheel and broadcast them out to all the classrooms. In their homerooms, students are looking for their “B-11”. There is big excitement when a class has a winner and then we’re off into the next round.
As I mentioned a few weeks back, if you'd like to reinforce ROAR at home, it stands for Respect, Ownership, Always Safe, and Responsible. As we address behaviors at school, they all can usually fall under one of these categories. This is part of our positive behavior system and is focused on teaching the behaviors you want to see. Give it a try in your house!

Reminders:
-If using the circle drive to drop off your child, pull all the way up, and stay in your vehicle. Have your kid(s) exit through the passenger door, so they don’t have to cross in front of other drivers. Once they’re safely on the sidewalk, slowly exit to the stop sign. If you’d like to walk your child to the building, park in one of the parking lots or along the street.
-A reminder that breakfast starts at 7:50 and ends at 8:05. Our outside supervision starts at 7:50 before school. After school, outside supervision ends at 4:00. We want all our kids to have an opportunity to eat, to be safe, and families to know when they can expect the supervision “hand-off” to happen.

Esta tarde celebramos nuestra segunda celebración escolar ROAR para reconocer el buen comportamiento de los alumnos de Longfellow. Cada semana, se ganan boletos cuando los alumnos demuestran los principios de ROAR en acción. Esos boletos se depositan en un bote para la clase y la clase ganadora recibe el trofeo itinerante de la semana. Además, una vez que toda la escuela consigue 10,000 boletos, ¡toda la escuela celebra!
Kínder fue el grado con más ganadores, así que votaron para decidir cuál sería la celebración escolar. ¡Eligieron el bingo! Fue muy popular hace unos años y ahora regresa a Longfellow. El evento se transmite en vivo a las aulas por YouTube. Sentado en la "sede de ROAR" (¿la sala de conferencias? ¿mi oficina?), saco los números de la ruleta de bingo y los anuncio a todas las aulas. En sus aulas, los alumnos buscan su "B-11". Hay mucha emoción cuando una clase tiene un ganador y pasamos a la siguiente ronda.
Como mencioné hace unas semanas, si desean reforzar ROAR en casa, significa Respeto, Propiedad, Siempre Seguro y Responsable. Al abordar los comportamientos en la escuela, todos suelen caer en una de estas categorías. Esto forma parte de nuestro sistema de comportamiento positivo y se centra en enseñar los comportamientos que desean ver. ¡Pruébenlo en casa!

- Si usan la entrada circular para dejar a su hijo, deténganse completamente y permanezcan en su vehículo. Hagan que su(s) hijo(s) salgan por la puerta del pasajero para que no tengan que cruzar frente a otros conductores. Una vez que estén seguros en la acera, salgan lentamente hasta la señal de alto. Si desean acompañar a su hijo al edificio, estaciónense en uno de los estacionamientos o en la calle.
- Les recordamos que el desayuno comienza a las 7:50 y termina a las 8:05. Nuestra supervisión externa comienza a las 7:50 antes de la escuela. Después de clases, la supervisión externa termina a las 4:00 p. m. Queremos que todos nuestros niños tengan la oportunidad de comer, estar seguros y que las familias sepan cuándo pueden esperar el traspaso de la supervisión.
