Families of Longfellow Elementary-
I hope everyone has had the chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having. I’m sure everyone is thinking about the need for moisture, but I have to say it’s been wonderful to see the students enjoying the sunshine during recess. I also enjoy seeing families taking some time to connect and enjoy our playground after school. Time with our kids and our neighbors is what makes springtime in Salida truly special. As we all know, the weather can still turn on a dime. With the change in seasons and outdoor play, we want to remind you to check our Lost and Found. It's still overflowing with jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, and other items. Labeling your child’s things makes it much easier for us to get them back to them. Please stop by the school office and we can show you to the lost and found (and hopefully reunite you with that lost item).
On a more serious note, I regret to inform the Longfellow community that we’ll be cancelling our author’s visit by Aida Salazar. During all our author’s visits, we work to encourage a love of reading, writing, and books among our students. After deep conversation with Mrs. Salazar and various community members, Dr. Blackburn felt the community dialog that was happening around this event was eclipsing our goal of loving all things literacy and felt it was best to cancel. School will continue as normal on March 3rd and we’ll continue to work to foster a love of reading, writing and books among all our children. It is one of the most precious gifts you can give a child.
Now I feel the need to shift back to the beautiful part of Longfellow, our students. On Thursday of next week, our 3rd graders will be presenting their musical performance, “I Love Rock and Roll.” During the day, the 3rd graders will perform for the students and staff at Longfellow. In the evening, we invite families to join us from 6:00 to 7:00 so that they may enjoy the performance and share their love of rock and roll as well.

Familias de la Escuela Primaria Longfellow:
Espero que hayan tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar del hermoso clima. Seguramente todos están pensando en la necesidad de humedad, pero debo decir que ha sido maravilloso ver a los estudiantes disfrutando del sol durante el recreo. También disfruto ver a las familias pasar tiempo juntos y disfrutar de nuestro patio de recreo después de clases. El tiempo con nuestros hijos y vecinos es lo que hace que la primavera en Salida sea realmente especial. Como todos sabemos, el clima puede cambiar repentinamente. Con el cambio de estación y los juegos al aire libre, queremos recordarles que revisen nuestra sección de objetos perdidos. Todavía está repleta de chaquetas, suéteres, loncheras y otros artículos. Etiquetar las cosas de sus hijos nos facilita mucho devolvérselas. Por favor, pasen por la oficina de la escuela y podremos mostrarles dónde encontrar los objetos perdidos (y con suerte, recuperar ese objeto perdido).
Hablando en serio, lamento informar a la comunidad de Longfellow que cancelaremos la visita de nuestra autora, Aida Salazar. Durante todas las visitas de nuestros autores, trabajamos para fomentar el amor por la lectura, la escritura y los libros entre nuestros estudiantes. Tras una profunda conversación con la Sra. Salazar y varios miembros de la comunidad, el Dr. Blackburn consideró que el diálogo comunitario que se estaba generando en torno a este evento estaba eclipsando nuestro objetivo de amar la alfabetización y consideró que era mejor cancelarlo. Las clases continuarán con normalidad el 3 de marzo y seguiremos trabajando para fomentar el amor por la lectura, la escritura y los libros entre todos nuestros niños. Es uno de los regalos más preciados que se le puede dar a un niño.
Ahora siento la necesidad de volver a la parte hermosa de Longfellow: nuestros estudiantes. El jueves de la próxima semana, nuestros estudiantes de 3.er grado presentarán su espectáculo musical, "I Love Rock and Roll". Durante el día, los estudiantes de 3.er grado actuarán para los estudiantes y el personal de Longfellow. Por la noche, invitamos a las familias a unirse a nosotros de 6:00 a 7:00 para que puedan disfrutar de la presentación y compartir también su amor por el rock and roll.
