Families of Longfellow Elementary-
Our first day of CMAS state testing has started. I’d like to give a big thanks to all our 3rd and 4th grade families as they’ve worked to make sure their kids are here on time and ready to roll. I spoke with one student yesterday and she said, “It’s not bad. It’s actually kind of fun.” I’d like to send a big thank you to all our students, staff, and families for all the preparations they’ve made to show what they know.
These tests serve to inform us of an individual student’s success in grasping the curriculum, the performance of the whole class, the performance of the grade level, and the performance of the whole school. While they don’t tell us everything about a student’s growth and development, they give us insight into areas that might need extra focus for your child. As a school, they help us improve our instruction so we can continue to provide the highest level of education for the kids of Salida.
On another note, with the warmer weather, we’re seeing an increase in students riding their bikes, scooters, and skateboards to school. Please take time to chat with your child about safe cycling, and following traffic rules as they ride to and from school. Have them “walk their wheels” as they enter the sidewalks in and around the Longfellow campus. Most importantly, be a good role model. If you chaperone your child on your bike, obey the laws and rules as well. For those of you who drop your child off in a vehicle, keep your eyes peeled. While we hope that they make safe riding decisions, we know that isn’t always the case.

Familias de la Escuela Primaria Longfellow:
Ha comenzado nuestro primer día de las pruebas estatales CMAS. Me gustaría extender un enorme agradecimiento a todas las familias de nuestros estudiantes de 3.er y 4.º grado, ya que se han esforzado para asegurar que sus hijos lleguen a tiempo y listos para empezar. Ayer conversé con una estudiante y me dijo: "No está mal. De hecho, es hasta un poco divertido". También quiero enviar un gran agradecimiento a todos nuestros estudiantes, al personal y a las familias por todos los preparativos que han realizado para demostrar lo que saben.
Estas pruebas sirven para informarnos sobre el éxito individual de cada estudiante en la asimilación del plan de estudios, el desempeño de la clase en su conjunto, el rendimiento del nivel de grado y el desempeño de toda la escuela. Si bien no nos revelan todo acerca del crecimiento y desarrollo de un estudiante, nos ofrecen información valiosa sobre aquellas áreas que podrían requerir una atención adicional para su hijo. Como institución educativa, estas pruebas nos ayudan a mejorar nuestra instrucción para que podamos seguir brindando el más alto nivel de educación a los niños de Salida.
Cambiando de tema: con la llegada del clima más cálido, estamos observando un aumento en el número de estudiantes que vienen a la escuela en bicicleta, patinete o patineta. Por favor, tómense un momento para conversar con sus hijos sobre la seguridad al andar en bicicleta y la importancia de respetar las normas de tránsito en su trayecto hacia y desde la escuela. Pídanles que "vayan a pie con sus vehículos de ruedas" (caminando junto a ellos) al ingresar a las aceras dentro y alrededor del recinto escolar de Longfellow. Y lo más importante: sean un buen ejemplo a seguir. Si acompañan a sus hijos en bicicleta, asegúrense también de respetar las leyes y normas de tránsito. Para aquellos de ustedes que traen a sus hijos en vehículo motorizado, les pedimos que se mantengan muy atentos. Aunque confiamos en que los estudiantes tomen decisiones seguras al desplazarse, sabemos que no siempre es así.
