Dear LES Families,
What a wonderful first full week! We have seen students learning, laughing, building friendships, practicing new routines and beginning to discover what it means to be part of our school community. There is so much good happening in our building and we are excited about where this year is headed.
Our common language this week has been a simple question: “What’s the best that can happen?” When something is new, it's easy to focus on what might go wrong. We are encouraging our students to flip the script and to approach new experiences with optimism, curiosity and the belief that something great might happen. We have already seen that mindset in action!
Another important part of building our community is our House System. Our Houses are about much more than just positive behavior or healthy fun competition. They help students build relationships with people outside their own classroom and remind every child that there are adults and students throughout our building who know them, care about them and are cheering them on.
And we want you to feel that same sense of belonging.
Did you know there are currently 280 volunteers involved at Longfellow? We would love to see that number grow even higher and have you join us! We invite you to sign up to volunteer and join us in the school, not just as an observer, but as a participant alongside our students.
Families are an important part of our LES community and we want you to feel welcome and connected to what is happening at school. There are many opportunities throughout the year to be part of our school, connect with teachers and staff, and attend events. We hope you will join us along the way.

Estimadas familias de LES:
¡Qué maravillosa primera semana completa! Hemos visto a los estudiantes aprender, reír, entablar amistades, practicar nuevas rutinas y comenzar a descubrir lo que significa formar parte de nuestra comunidad escolar. Están sucediendo muchas cosas positivas en nuestra escuela y nos entusiasma el rumbo que tomará este año.
Nuestro lema o enfoque común esta semana ha sido una pregunta sencilla: "¿Qué es lo mejor que puede pasar?". Cuando algo es nuevo, es fácil centrarse en lo que podría salir mal. Animamos a nuestros estudiantes a cambiar esa perspectiva y a afrontar las nuevas experiencias con optimismo, curiosidad y la convicción de que puede ocurrir algo grandioso. ¡Ya hemos visto esa mentalidad en acción!
Otro aspecto importante para fortalecer nuestra comunidad es nuestro sistema de "Casas" (grupos escolares). Nuestras Casas representan mucho más que un buen comportamiento o una competencia sana y divertida. Ayudan a los estudiantes a establecer relaciones con personas fuera de su propia aula y recuerdan a cada niño que hay adultos y compañeros en toda la escuela que los conocen, se preocupan por ellos y los apoyan.
Y queremos que ustedes también sientan ese mismo sentido de pertenencia.
¿Sabían que actualmente hay 280 voluntarios colaborando en Longfellow? ¡Nos encantaría que esa cifra aumentara y que ustedes se unieran a nosotros! Los invitamos a inscribirse como voluntarios y a acompañarnos en la escuela, no solo como observadores, sino como participantes activos junto a nuestros estudiantes.
Las familias son una parte fundamental de nuestra comunidad de LES; queremos que se sientan bienvenidos y conectados con lo que sucede en la escuela.
