Dear LES Families,
This was a full week at Longfellow! On Monday, our first through fourth graders got to experience Creede Repertory Theatre. On Tuesday, our kindergartners were able to meet with our local firefighters. On Wednesday, our first graders headed to the pumpkin patch. Today, Thursday, our fourth graders got to participate in our Ride Right Bike Safety and Helmet Day. This is one of our favorite days of the year and Ride Right Bike Safety and Helmet Day is in its 19th year of service and going strong! The fourth grade students were thrilled to participate in this Longfellow tradition, partnering with Absolute Bikes and SPOT (Salida Area Parks, Open Space and Trails). The students learned from local police officers and firefighters who provided bike safety training, ran students through the obstacle course, and talked with them about E-bike safety.
And, of course, our favorite part: every single fourth grader received a free high-quality bike helmet!
Here in Salida, we have such a unique opportunity to highlight one of the things we love most about our community: an outdoor, active lifestyle. With our school being right in town, riding a bike is accessible to so many of our students. It is a way to get to school, get outside, be active, and enjoy the place we call home.
In this week's morning announcements, we challenged students to reflect on what they choose to notice, discuss and focus on, because those daily choices define what they are choosing to amplify. We are reminded that to give something our attention, energy, and voice is what makes it grow. And this week gave us plenty of good things to amplify!
Have an awesome weekend.
Warmly, Ms. Anne, Principal, Longfellow Elementary School
Winter Gear- each year, we receive
donations of hats, gloves, and coats. Reach out to the LES Office if your student would benefit from any of these and we can connect you.
School Picture Makeups are scheduled for Monday October 12th. If your student was absent for picture day the photographer will make sure your student gets their makeup photos done on Monday morning.
