Quote of the Week:
“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” — George Herman “Babe” Ruth
Thank you:
A Huge thank you goes out to our Volunteer Coaches! These coaches show up to help our youth out of the goodness of their heart and because they care about our kids. These volunteers help our Head coaches with many different tasks. Some organizational, some give advice, some just show up to provide extra love and support! Whatever their role is, it often goes unnoticed until it's gone. So let's take a moment and tell those volunteers THANK YOU!
Shout outs/Results:
Boys Golf: Spartan Golf Finished 5th place in their last two tournaments last week. At the second TPL Tournament, Sr Ryus Mattix placed first and is currently in first place in the league heading into this week's final league match in Rye on Tuesday.
Boys Soccer: Tied with Gunnison on 9/2 then rebounded with a Huge 5-0 shutout of Vail Mountain on 9/3. It was a great showing in front of a big home crowd for their first home game of the season.
Girls Volleyball: Lost an epic 5 set Match on the Road at St. Mary’s in their only match of the week.
Football: Showed Growth and determination in their 28-7 loss to BV. The game was closer than the score indicated as a few key plays really swung the momentum on the field.
Cross Country: The Spartans headed to Niwot and represented! They took home 2nd place in both the Boys and Girls races with Lucy Lenth and Jackson Shomion leading the Spartans. The real highlight is that 16 athletes ran their first High School XC Race on Friday. Great Job Spartans!
SMS Round up: This week at Salida Middle School will be a busy one for the teams as they are primarily on the road. The Cross Country Team did a great job at their Woodland Park meet last Thursday with both the Boys and Girls teams winning second place. Volleyball has their big match against our local rival Buena Vista tonight in the SMS Gymand the Cheerleaders are ready to lead chants. For the rest of the week the teams are on the road with Volleyball facing off against Florence, Football will face Buena Vista, and Cross Country will be running in Canon City and Alamosa. All the teams are working hard and starting to come together as their seasons progress.

AD’s Remarks:
For most folks in the school world, Labor day is a day off and a day for fun, relaxation and sneaking in that final camping trip or pool day before fall truly kicks in. For our coaches and athletes however it is another day for them to continue putting in the hard work of improving themselves and their teams. We know that as Spartans we must “Dedicate ourselves to perpetual physical training, regardless of the circumstances”.
Instead of saying “We HAVE to work out today.” We can accept a mindset of dedicating ourselves to improvement and say “We Workout Every Day. This is what we do.” When hard work and dedication becomes who we are, not just what we do, then greatness becomes us, and is not just something we chase.
Question of The Week: Each week we will add a thought provoking question to talk about with your athlete/family.
Comparison is the root of insecurity. What is a life experience that you have that confirms that statement?
