Quote of the Week:
"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we may as well dance."
Thank you:
District Transportation does more than just take our students to and from school. These amazing humans transport our students to memories that last a lifetime. If you ask a senior about some of their favorite memories with the team, many of those are on those bus rides to and from events. Our drivers not only transport them there, but they are often on the front row of the sidelines cheering them on, taking photos and lending encouragement. As an Activity department what we do would be impossible without them. That being said if you know anyone interested in driving buses, have them reach out to district transportation and APPLY NOW!
Shout outs/Results:
Boys Golf: Sr. Ryus Mattix won the Individual Tri Peaks League Championship on Tuesday. He was the top golfer for the league and our First League Champion of the Year! We hope for more to follow! As a team, they wrapped up a Busy week placing 5th at the Butch Braswell invite here in Salida!
Boys Soccer: Mega Week for the Spartans on the Pitch. Traveled to Crested Butte and took down our soccer rival 4-0! Then followed that up with a 2-1 win over Pueblo West! Camden Morrison and Yilvert Perera are leading the Spartans with 7 and 6 goals apiece.
Girls Volleyball: Took on a super talented and tough Dolores team last week. The first Set was a 28-26 thriller. We won the second set then ran out of steam in the 3rd and 4th sets. It was a great evening of High Level Volleyball and showed we can play with anyone.
Cross Country: Headed down to Alamosa for the Joe Vigil Invite over the weekend. The Boys and girls took on the competition and some illness but still managed several PR’s. We secured a 7th place finish on the Girls Side and an 8th place finish on the boys side out of 37 teams that participated.
Mountain Biking: The Mountain Bike Team took on the Dusty Trails up in Edwards at the Haymaker Classic. The Team took 3rd overall in their division with 19 total racers competing from Salida!
SMS Round up: - Asst AD Stephen Crane
SMS Volleyball and Football came up short on the road against Florence and Buena Vista last week, however Coaches of the different programs both said that the teams are playing hard and growing in their ability to work as a team.
SMS Cheer has learned their cheers and has made appearances at both the past Football and Volleyball home games.
Cross Country had a busy week with two meets on the road with some excellent finishes. Coach Lamond said, “The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have had a lot of success so far this season. Both teams have seen their share of the podium. The biggest win came this past weekend at the Joe I. Vigil Invitational in Alamosa where the boys team earned 1st place overall! Each team has three more meets before the state meet at the end of October.”

AD’s Remarks:
Homecoming Week! Homecoming week is always an exciting and stressful time for High School Staff, Students and Coaches alike. The excitement and joy this week can create is unmatched by any other week in the school calendar. One of the best parts of Homecoming is that we get to share that joy and excitement with the community! Even if you aren’t involved in any events this week, pick an event and bring a friend to be a part of this years SHS homecoming experience. Maybe it will bring back some fun memories of Homecoming's past and make some new memories along the way.
Homecoming Parade Info: The parade will begin at 4:30 following the route below. Feel Free to hang out at Alpine Park and Catch the Parade on both sides of the park!
There will be NO CANDY thrown out at the parade. Please show up and cheer for your Spartans! Cheer for the most creative float, your favorite Spartans or for everyone!

Question of The Week: Each week we will add a thought provoking question to talk about with your athlete/family.
When have you completely misread a situation that mattered? What can you learn from that experience?
