Rainbow over field

Quote of the Week:

"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain"

-Dolly Parton

Thank you:

A sincere thank you to all the Gate Workers and support staff and Food Trucks who made it through the multiple lightning delays and rain on Friday night. The rain didn’t dampen your Homecoming Spirit!

Also a Big Thank You to the community for supporting and being part of our Homecoming week fun! We loved seeing you all along the Parade route and in the stands at last week’s events!

Shout outs/Results:

  • Boys Soccer: Went 2-0 on the week stacking up wins against Canon City and Thomas MacLaren. The boys are ranked #2 in 3A so keep showing up to cheer them on!

  • Girls Volleyball: Also went 2-0 on the week beating Fountain Valley and Banning Lewis in a 5 set showdown in front of the home fans!

  • Cross Country: Dominated the Gunnison Meet securing 1st Place on both the Mens and Womens side.

  • Football: Football got to Ring the Bell for the first time this season after beating Bennett 51-26. The boys hard work is starting to show out on the field!

  • Marching Band: Proved you can still fly your Dragon in the rain. The rolled with the weather and performed their show “How to Train your Dragon” during the pregame fun!

  • Cheer: Our small but mighty cheer team has been bringing the Spirit at events the last few weeks. They made a return to the volleyball sideline and are excited to cheer on All the Spartan teams this year!

  • SMS Round up: - Asst AD Stephen Crane

    • Last week the SMS Volleyball team had some ups and downs as they beat Woodland Park at home but struggled against Harrison Middle School while on the road. The Cheer Squad was out in full force for the Monday Game and are getting better at their cheers. For the SMS Football team they are still building the program and faced some big competition while on the road at Woodland Park. The bigger players of WP and a lightning delay meant that they did not walk away with a win.

    • The SMS Cross Country Boys and Girls did an excellent job at Gunnison with the Girls coming in 3rd overall and the Boys finally beating out Gunnison with a first place finish.

AD’s Remarks:

What a whirlwind of a week! Homecoming has come and gone and so much positivity occurred during the week. All of our Varsity Teams won their games this week and we got to see our Band and Cheer Squads bring the Spartan Spirit in the Parade and on Friday night.

Speaking of Friday night, the weather gave us a little lesson in humility and perseverance. When we  think we have all our plans lined up just right, life does a great job of reminding us that we can’t control everything. When things don’t go as planned, it is important to remain flexible and adapt to our new circumstances. Kudos to our workers and Coaches who didn’t complain or get upset about the weather, they adapted and kept themselves and our student athletes and performers prepared and they all delivered great results.

Question of The Week:

Who is the most optimistic person in your life and who is the most cynical? What can you learn from them?
