The Crest Academy took their annual trip to the city. This year they went to Denver on Jan. 22nd and 23rd to soak in some city life and cultural activities. The trip was planned in order to go to both the Where the Wild Things Are Exhibit of Maurice Sendak's work at the Denver Art Museum as well as the opening night of Back to the Future the musical at the Buell Theater at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Students, teachers, and chaperones engaged in the Where the Wild Things Are Exhibit after studying the book, seeing the 2009 movie, and familiarizing themselves with Sendak's work. They used the audio tour to enhance their experience. After the exhibit, they took a workshop at the museum that used TAB (teaching through artistic behavior) where they were allowed access to materials in the workshop and given free play to create.
The evening went late as students attended the opening night of Back to the Future the Musical. Many students had seen the movie on their own and were able to compare the two. Others enjoyed the technology used to make the Delorean look like it was flying. Students returned to the hostel exhausted and ready for a good night's rest.
The next morning, even though the weather was a bit chilly, students walked around the RiNo district and checked out the murals before heading to the Zine museum housed in the Bob Ragland library. They created their own small Zines and during a Zine making workshop.
After a lot of driving and activities students returned to Salida ready to rest for the weekend.
