It is official! Thursday, April 2, 2026 has been deemed a "snow day" and school has been canceled, per direction by Superintendent Dr. Blackburn. After confirmation from SHS Principal Hull, enough tickets were sold to the April 14, 2026 girls' home soccer game. Salida Schools would like to thank our community for the support of the 2026 Varsity Girls' Basketball team during their 3A State Championship season! They will be honored during halftime at the home varsity girls' soccer game against Buena Vista 4/14. That day will also feature a parade at 4:15 and tailgating before the game at 4:45. Pull out all the purple to celebrate this incredible, historic achievement - honor our state champions, and watch the Spartans take on Buena Vista under the lights of Spartan Stadium. Tickets are still available on GoFan if you haven't purchased yours yet. We look forward to celebrating this historic win with the community!

Our first Conscious Discipline Parent Night was a great success! A huge thank you to the parents that attended and engaged in the conversation, as well as to the SECC staff that helped make it happen by providing childcare. We will offer another Conscious Discipline Parent Night in the spring, but if you would like more information and resources about Conscious Discipline before then, ask for Sheri and Chenoa and we can provide that for you!

Big thanks to Maytal from Guidestone for the special visit yesterday! Maytal brought a variety of veggies for our children to try including kohlrabi, broccoli, and carrots. Although all three were enjoyed, the carrots were the fan favorite!

We had some exciting visitors from the Fire Department yesterday! In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the firemen showed our children their equipment and what they look like when they have all of their gear on. It gave our kiddos a chance to see that it is the same person under the suit, and that they are people they can trust in an emergency! Big thank you to the Salida Fire Department for spending the afternoon with us!

The Salida Early Childhood Center is participating in the Child Abuse Prevention month (CAPM), in partnership with Family Youth Initiative (FYI). The 2025 theme is powered by hope, strengthened by prevention. The VISION is a world where all children and family are living a purposeful and happy life with hope for the future. By ensuring families have the support they need before challenges become crises, we can create a future filled with hope and opportunity!
For the month of April SECC invites schools and community members to participate in Child Abuse Prevention Month through showcasing youth art projects. SECC invites you to participate in their ART idea this year, KINDNESS ROCKS!
Please encourage youth and families to pick out a rock in their yard and paint it with washable paint (we recommend using the color blue or with a powerful prevention statement or pinwheel painted on it) .
Schools might have kids paint rocks at the school then showcase the kid’s artwork on campus or by sharing photos of the artwork.
Another idea is to play “hide and seek” with the decorated rocks & to share in the joy of PLAY!
Pictures of youth artwork are encouraged to be sent to Savanna at FYI:
smoorefield@chaffeecounty.org who will post them on FYI’s social media

Did you know that F Street is the place to be on Halloween, and that some residents have as many as 900 trick-or-treaters visit their home?
To support this impressive coming together of ghosts, ghouls, princesses, super heroes, and other creatively clad hopeful Halloweeners, the community has come together to gather a bunch of treats to make sure this event lives up to all the expectations!
If you are interested in making a donation to support our F-Street community, candy can be dropped off at:
Salida Early Childhood Center
The Crest Academy
Salida Montessori Upper School
Salida Middle School
The City of Salida, Touber Bldg
The Salida Hot Springs Pool
The deadline for donations is Wednesday, October 30th, 2024.
Before the spoils of the collections are shared with F-Street, the students at the Crest Academy will incorporate the bags of candy into a number of learning opportunities, creating data about the types of candy, including weight and volume to use for graphing, and the 8th graders will map F Street as well.
