The mission of the Salida School District shall be to strive to provide a safe environment for all students and staff. Meaningful opportunities and innovative educational programs shall be provided for all students so that they reach their learning potential, including the attainment of content standards, through partnerships between home, school, and the community.
The Salida School Board is a group of volunteer citizens that dedicate themselves to ensure that the heart of the community, our schools, are healthy. They oversee policies, systems and the superintendent. They do not oversee the minutia of classroom activity. Citizens concerned with individual student needs should contact the teacher and principal. The board loves input from other community members as they try to represent what the school is and should be to Salida at large. Board policies are posted at the Colorado Association of School Boards.
All Board of Education meetings are public meetings and the community is always welcome. There are BOE Meeting Protocols for participating in the meeting. Participants are encouraged to understand those protocols so that his or her voice can be best heard. Agendas are posted by the Friday prior to the Regular Board Meeting.

Cancellation of School Board Election
WHEREAS, the only matter before the electors at the regular biennial school election on November 7, 2023, is the election of 5 persons to fill 5 offices of school director; and
WHEREAS, 4 individuals have nomination petitions with sufficient signatures to qualify as candidates; and
WHEREAS, the deadline for filing an affidavit of intent to be a write-in candidate has passed with 1 individual(s) filing such an affidavit; and
WHEREAS, state law at Colo. Rev. Stat. § 1-5-208(1.5) authorizes the Board of Education by resolution to cancel the election and declare the candidates elected if at the close of business on September 5, 2023 there are not more candidates than offices to be filled at the election, including candidates filing affidavits of intent to be write-in candidates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Salida School District has determined that the prerequisites for canceling the election have been met so the 2023 regular school biennial election is canceled.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Kim LeTourneau the designated election official for the regular school biennial election, is authorized to take all necessary and appropriate steps to cancel the election, including providing notice of the cancellation by publication and by posting notice at each polling location, in the office of the designated election official and in the office of the county clerk and recorder; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the designated election official shall officially notify the county clerk and recorder of this action so that election expenses to date can be pro-rated accordingly; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following individuals are hereby declared elected by acclamation: Karen Lundberg for District 1, Jodi Breckenridge Petit for District 2, Jennifer Schuchman for District 5, and At-Large Directors Matt Hobbs (4-year term) and Ben Hill (2-year term).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the designated election official shall notify these candidates of the cancellation of the election and of their resulting election by acclamation; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that between Election Day and the next regular meeting of the Board of Education or the Board’s organizational meeting, whichever comes first, the designated election official shall provide these candidates with certificates of election after which they shall each take the oath of office within 10 days and will thereafter be qualified to participate in meetings of the Board of Education.

Call for Nominations for School Directors
Salida School District R-32-J
Chaffee and Fremont Counties, Colorado
The Salida School District R-32-J in the Counties of Chaffee and Fremont, State of Colorado, calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
At this election 3 directors will be elected for District 1, District 2, and one at-large for a term of office of four years and 2of directors will be elected representing District 5 and another at-large seat for a term of office of two years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and a resident of the director district which will be represented. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
A person who desires to be a candidate for school director shall file a written notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election.
Nomination petitions may be obtained at the Salida School District Administration Office at 627 Oak Street in Salida. Office hours are 7:30-4:30 Monday through Thursday, and Fridays from 8-noon.
Completed petitions shall be submitted to Kim LeTourneau no later than noon on September 1, 2023.
